2022

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of June 22, 2022, Miyamoto Relief, a non-profit organization, implemented a vital program to assist the affected communities of PodalKai and Jani Villages in Gayan district, Paktika province.

Through funding from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, this initiative aimed to restore and fortify earthquake-damaged houses while promoting safer construction practices to reduce the risk of future structural failures. The program offered a comprehensive approach, combining cash assistance and technical support to empower local communities in the reconstruction process. Aligning with the Afghanistan Shelter Cluster‘s recommendations, the initiative successfully:

  • Repaired 25 compounds
  • Assisted 100 families/households
  • Benefited 563 individuals

Moreover, the program emphasized the use of vernacular construction methods and materials, ensuring that the rebuilt structures were not only resilient but also culturally appropriate and sustainable.
