Restoring Nepal’s Ananda Kuti Vidhya Peeth School

When the M7.8 earthquake struck Nepal in 2015, the historic Buddhist boarding high school Ananda Kuti Vidhya Peeth suffered significant damage to its infrastructure. This devastating event disrupted the daily lives of nearly 500 students and school staff. To this day, students and teachers continue their work in temporary shelters until the building is deemed safe for return

Miyamoto Relief is aiding with the repair and seismic strengthening of the school’s main building, Maitri Bhawan, which suffered severe damage from the earthquake. Retrofitting this building will allow more teachers and students to return to a safe space and increase student enrollment, which declined after the seismic event. Some construction activities include building new shear walls, adding steel beams for structural support, reinforcement of the existing slab through carbon fiber laminate, and waterproofing measures to the roof slab.
