Field Surveys for Risk Reduction

To assess climate change impact, the SESH team conducted comprehensive surveys across the region to identify major risks posed by different building types. Based on their findings, they developed retrofitting and rebuilding guidelines tailored for homes and businesses. This hands-on experience provided invaluable lessons on risk reduction practices, community resilience, and sustainable urban planning.

By fostering cross-cultural collaboration between American and Indonesian students, this USAID initiative exemplified the spirit of knowledge-sharing for a safer, more resilient world.

As climate change risks escalate globally, such partnerships will prove vital in building resilient urban infrastructure capable of withstanding disasters and protecting vulnerable communities.

“It was incredibly interesting to physically observe and learn about the vernacular construction methods and specificities of Indonesian architectural styles from homeowners, working professionals, and the local engineering students.”
