When the devastating 2010 earthquake struck Haiti, countless foreigners fled the country. But Consuelo Alzamora, a dedicated Chilean occupational therapist, chose to stay alongside her young son. Her commitment to the Foundation Tous Ensemble’s (FONTEN) Rehabilitation Center never wavered, offering hope and healing to injured Haitians against all odds.
Despite daunting challenges like corruption, gang violence, murders, and kidnappings, Consuelo’s resilience over the past 13 years has been unwavering. Through FONTEN, she continues empowering the physically challenged to overcome obstacles and reclaim their lives.
The catastrophic 2021 earthquake left FONTEN’s facility severely damaged, abruptly halting care for existing patients. As remaining health centers were overwhelmed, rebuilding the rehab center became crucial for Miyamoto Relief’s efforts. For tens of thousands affected by disability and disaster, FONTEN offers a vital lifeline.
